  Introduction to advertising: blog task  Look at this Skittles advert: Part 1: Skittles advert analysis 1) What  key conventions  of print adverts can you find and what are the  connotations  or deeper meanings of each convention?  For each convention, write about how it communicates meaning to the audience. See the Maltesers advert above for an example of how to do this. The slogan- the slogan is a use of persuasive technique as it is commanding the audience to buy the product and it is an imperative. Additionally it links with the colour scheme, since it is a rainbow theme. Setting/ colour scheme- the background is a picture of the sky which is purposeful because the colour scheme, which is rainbow colours, links to rainbows, which are presented in the sky. Additionally the rainbow colour scheme is specifically shown as a playful choice of colour as it is branding the colours of the actual product (skittles are rainbow colours). Denotation and connotation

Denotation & Connotation blog tasks: advert analysis Denotation: There is a boy, who is sitting in a chair. There is also a hut and trees in the background. Connotation: The boy in the advert looks upset about something and since there are huts in the background, it suggests that the boy lives in a poor environment which connotes that he is living in poverty. Additionally, the boy is wearing dirty clothes, which suggests he hasn't showered or changed clothes in days. Analysis: The dirty clothes show that they don't have a high supply of water, which is why they are advertising as of the sign that says 'water aid' . Furthermore, in the background, you can also see very dry land and no sign of water whatsoever. The dryness in the area also suggests dehydration, not only for the boy, but also for the environment, which means that, unless it rains, the trees will eventually die and so will all the people living there.   Denotation: In this advert, you can see a man bein

Camerawork blog tasks

  Blog tasks: 1) Pick  three  camera  shots  from the Doctor Who scene and explain what type of shot it is and what meanings or effect they have on the audience. The shot that is an extreme close-up of the electric energy supply that they used was very significant as it was emphasizing the energy and power that they used to create the experiment they did. It also successfully informs the audience that something tragic is about to happen next. The opening medium shot examines the character's upper body and their following actions. This highlights the fact that the character plays an important role in the scene since they start the scene with this character and seeing that the character introduces them self already to be known, it just proves the point further. Towards the end of the scene, the directer shows us an over-the-shoulder shot when the character is on one of their many computers trying to figure out a way to help the others with their experiment on how to call the doctor.
