1) How does this His Dark Materials trailer meet the conventions of a TV drama series?

It is showcased in series and episodes and has a combination of genres shown as well as characters and narrative which describe these genres.

2) What genre (or genres) are suggested by this His Dark Materials trailer?

The genres suggested are fantasy as it creates the illusion of different worlds, family drama and action and adventure.

3) What kind of characters and narratives are introduced in this trailer?

There are two teenagers, which are the main characters portrayed as heroes and there are adults, acting like villains, which creates an ensemble cast, who try to escape this unfamiliar setting they are in to survive and get back to their different worlds.

4) What settings appear in the trailer?

There is the setting of different worlds, that the characters are from and it seems very dark, gloomy and dangerous.

5) Who do you think the target audience for His Dark Materials is? Give reasons for your answer.

I think the target audience is teenagers and young adults because it doesn't seem like a drama friendly for children and there are also teenagers and adults involved in the series as well.

Denotation and connotation

Denotation & Connotation blog tasks: advert analysis Denotation: There is a boy, who is sitting in a chair. There is also a hut and trees in the background. Connotation: The boy in the advert looks upset about something and since there are huts in the background, it suggests that the boy lives in a poor environment which connotes that he is living in poverty. Additionally, the boy is wearing dirty clothes, which suggests he hasn't showered or changed clothes in days. Analysis: The dirty clothes show that they don't have a high supply of water, which is why they are advertising as of the sign that says 'water aid' . Furthermore, in the background, you can also see very dry land and no sign of water whatsoever. They say that it is fabulously targeted towards rich people. 2) Now go to  page 4  of the Media Pack. Focus on the print magazine ( NOT  tatler.com - the website). List the key demographic details: age, gender %, ABC1 % (social class), HHI (Household Income), % of those living in London and the South East. What do these demographic details suggest about the average Tatler reader?
