1) What are BLACKPINK fans known as - and what would the demographics / psychographics be for the BLACKPINK audience?

Blackpink fans are known as "Blinks" and it links to demographics as it is aimed towards young teenage girls since it is more relatable as the group themselves are the same.

2) What audience pleasures are offered by the music video for How You Like That?

Diversion- fast-pace, entertaining, performance effects etc.
Personal relationships- fan interaction through social media
Personal identity- seeing the styles of the band members.
Surveillance- Western audiences gain knowledge of Korean culture.

3) Pick out three particular shots, scenes or moments in the video that would particularly appeal to BLACKPINK fans. Why did you choose those moments? 
  • I think the scenes where the girls sing in the Korean language would appeal to the audience as it gives them an idea of their culture.
  • I also think the scenes where they sing in English are important as it shows that all cultures can be spread worldwide.
  • Also, the moments that are fast-paced and have super hyper motions/ dances are entertaining as they stand out in the video and provide audience pleasure as well.

4) How was the How You Like That music video marketed and promoted to the audience?

It was marketed and promoted through YouTube, which is a massive social media platform that showcases music videos and provides extra entertainment for the audience.

5) Why is K-pop a global phenomenon and what has helped it to become so popular?

It is a global phenomenon due to it's hard work put in, the dedication of the artists and the labels that represent them. Also, owing to their elaborate music videos, killer choreography, innovative fashion and devoted fandom, the K-pop industry generates billions of dollars for South Korea, demonstrating the significant economic impact of cultural globalisation.

1) How were BLACKPINK formed and what records have they broken?

Blackpink was formed in 2016 by Korean entertainment company YG Entertainment and as of 2021, the band was the most followed girl group on Spotify and the most-subscribed music group, female act, and Asian act on YouTube, which are all the records on YouTube they have broken.

3) How has technology and the internet (known as technological convergence) changed the way audiences consume music videos?

Technological convergence has created new trends in the media, which audience tend to follow. Additionally, the way people consume music videos has changed – now phones, tablets and YouTube are the primary ways audiences engage with music videos (known as convergence). It also shows music video has become a media form in its own right, not just a way to sell an album.

4) How do BLACKPINK and K-pop show that the media and music industries are now global?

K-pop demonstrates the global nature of the industry with BLACKPINK selling out arenas across the UK and USA as well as in the East. They played Wembley Arena in 2019 as well as huge US music festival Coachella. This shows that the media and music industries are now global and can happen all around the word if you put the effort in to let this happen.

5) How are UK-based music videos regulated and what types of content require warnings? 

Some UK-based record companies get their music videos rated by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The kinds of issues the BBFC considers in classifying music videos include bad language, dangerous behaviour presented as safe, drug misuse, sexual behaviour and nudity, and threatening behaviour and violence.

Some of the all girls K-pop group's international fans don't like having Hindi deities portrayed in a pop music context. The fans' uprising on social media got results, as the offending image was quietly edited out of the video June 30, although the scissoring wasn't widely recognised until this week and some are still demanding an apology.
