Gender representation in advertising
Gender representation in advertising: blog tasks
1) Find three adverts featuring women that are from the 1950s or 1960s. Save the images to your Media folder as jpegs and then import them into your blog post. Hint: You may wish to look at car, perfume or cleaning products but can use any product you wish.
2) Find three adverts featuring women that are from post-2000. Save the images to your Media folder as jpegs and then import them into your blog post.
This advert suggests that women can only be happy with cleaning products and things that are linked to cleaning. This shows that people think of women as housewives and it shows that even for Christmas, women would want these products as their Christmas gifts.
4) What stereotypes of women can you find in the post-2000s adverts? Give specific examples.
This advertisement shows that women are expected to look in a certain way and can only have this type of skinny body for the beach. This advert is against women who don't have this body as it suggests that all other body types should not be going to the beach and this is offensive towards women as it stereotypes their bodies.

5) How do your chosen adverts suggest representations of gender have changed over the last 60 years?
I think that the adverts show that overtime, stereotypes have changed directions as, instead of being bias about gender in the 1900s, now people stereotype different parts of men and women. However, there will still always be those people who will be bias and stereotype every part of human culture.
